I was just getting set to make some coffee, eggs, and bacon. I picked up the phone to chat while cooking, even though I'm not a big phone person. Mostly use it to talk to family. And I started to dial my grandmother's phone number. Only she has been dead for like five years now and the number I was starting to call hasn't been hers in a lot longer than that. Guess I really really needed that iced latte.

I remember the Fathers Day after my father's father died, he started to shop for a gift in a window and then remembered his dad was dead.

Do you ever forget people are dead?

yup

I was cooking at my moms house one day and she offered me some of great grandma's cooking supplies that she had in the house. I didn't know why mom would have kitchen supplies from 3000 miles away so I asked "Isn't she cooking any more?" And then I learned that not only had she died a year ago but that my roommate and I had spent 30 minutes finding the right flower arrangement to my grand mother because of her moms death.

Oh, ya. Forgot she died. I always knew I was bad at keeping track of people but that really hit home.

It's been nearly four years, and I still catch myself on occasion reaching for my cell to call my mom when I have something exciting to tell...

Oddly enough I've been alive for going on 33 years now and only 3 people I know have died. All three happen to have been grandfathers. When only 2 were dead I would sometimes forget which one was the living one still, but now they are all gone so it's easier.

i've attempted to call my best friend, brian, who died on new year's 2004/2005 MANY MANY times since he's been dead... it's not until i can't find his number in my contact list before i realize, each time, "Oh, yeah... he's dead." sometimes it makes me laugh... other times it bums me out... but i spent 13 years of my life calling first for everything in my life, that well, it's a hard habit to break for the extremes on either spectrum...

it's normal honey...

*big hugs*

p.s. and man, do i know how hard it is to get a phone call... ;)
